Capilano University Archaeology Field School 2013 Information

The field school program at Capilano University was started in 2000 by Bob Muckle (professor and project director) and has been focused in the Lower Seymour Consevation Reserve (LSCR). Project objectives include training university students in archaeological methods, documenting heritage sites, contributing to a more complete picture of local history, and providing public education on archaeology.

The 2013 field school will occur mostly at an early 20th century Japanese camp. Previous work at the camp indicate it was a logging camp for a few years around 1920. One objective of the 2013 field season is to clarify the camp layout. Another objective is to test the hypothesis that after its initial abandonment as a logging camp in the early 1920's a small group of Japanese continued to live there until World War II internment in early 1942.
